Installing the Server

The first step in networking SCOOTER Pro™ is to download and install the required server software. The server must be installed on only ONE machine in your network. The computer hosting the server must have full internet access, and be available during any period where users will need to access the common database. If the host machine is turned off, network access to the database will also be disabled.

The server installation package can be download here: www.radio3k.com/files/ScooterServer_Setup.exe

Run the server setup installer to complete the installation and start the server process. There are no further steps required regarding the server. The server starts automatically each time the host computer is turned on and runs silently in the background with little to no impact on the host computer's performance. Note: each computer accessing the networked database must be running SCOOTER Pro™, either during the 30 day trial or the licensed version. The free version of SCOOTER does not support network protocols.

IMPORTANT! Once the server is installed, the machine hosting the server should be the first machine to initially log on to the network. This action causes the local database on host PC to be copied to the server folder. It is this database that will be accessed by all users when logged on to the network. If a client (remote) PC is the first to access the database, a fresh, empty database will be created on the server.

If you have been operating SCOOTER Pro™ in network mode under Version 5, a brief conversion process is required the first time the server computer accesses the server. This process will copy existing Version 5 data to the Version 6 format. If no Version 5 network files exist, the local Version 6 database on the server computer will be used.

See the topic Getting It To Work for details on creating access for the other computers in your network.
