If your computers are not already connected via a local network, you might require the services of an IT professional to accomplish this task. However, it is not a particularly daunting undertaking to establish a network, thanks to help from Microsoft®. Here are the steps required:
All Computers Must be in the Same Workgroup
Computers in a local area network (LAN) must be in the same workgroup in order to share files. If you are sharing one or more printers between PCs in your system, your workgroup is probably already set up.
If not, follow the instructions at this link: Join or create a workgroup
Connecting via a Client PC
Assuming your workgroup is set up, if a client (remote) PC can access the internet it should be able to access the PC running the SCOOTER Pro™ server. If you have difficulty Logging On to the network via LAN, this article might help: Using Ping to Troubleshoot Network Problem
For wireless connection, it is necessary to ensure an access port is open on your router. In either case (local or Wi-Fi connection) the firewall on the host PC must allow remote access.
•Open port 51234 on your router: Open the control panel of your router and allow port 51234 to pass information to the server host PC. Consult your router documentation for steps to accomplish this. Because router instructions vary by manufacturer, it is not possible to provide general instructions for this task. The status of port 51234 (open or closed) can be tested by visiting Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router. Failure to open port 51234 will prevent network operation of SCOOTER Pro™.
•Allow access via the host PCs firewall: The firewall software on the host PC (assuming you have a firewall -- and you should!) will block access to the machine by unknown entities and can also block access to port 51234. Consult your firewall documentation on how to allow the firewall to provide access to C:\SQLiteningServer\SQLiteningServer.exe. Failure to allow firewall access will prevent network operation of SCOOTER Pro™.
Again, a knowledgeable IT professional can quickly assist you in resolving these issues. Once set up, the server runs invisibly in the background of the host PC.
